Let's get to know Valle del Cauca
Coming from Quito, and after founding Popayán, the expeditions under the command of Sebastián de Belalcázar were the first Spanish conquerors to enter the current Valle del Cauca. The first Spanish foundation in Valle del Cauca occurred in the year 1535 when Juan de Ampudia established Villa de Ampudia.
Later, by order of Belalcázar, this town was transferred to the western bank of the Cauca River in the territory of the Gorrones indigenous people. Finally, Captain Muñoz ordered a new transfer to Valle de Lili where Santiago de Cali was founded on July 25, 1536.
